The Council of Lisburn and Castlereagh has announced the launch of a public consultation on its new Sustainability Strategy and Climate Action Plan. This initiative aligns with the Council’s recent declaration of a Climate Emergency, aiming to address the pressing challenges posed by climate change through a comprehensive strategy.
The draft plan, which is now open for public input, outlines the Council’s vision for fostering a sustainable and resilient community. It sets forth key actions designed to minimise and mitigate climate impacts in the short, medium, and long term. Cllr Pat Catney, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, highlighted the critical role of community engagement in this process. He stated, “Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. The Sustainability Strategy and Climate Action Plan sets out our commitment to tackling climate change and creating a more sustainable future for all. We want to hear from our residents, businesses and community groups to ensure this strategy reflects the priorities and needs of those who live and work in Lisburn and Castlereagh. This is your opportunity to help shape our future.”
Consultation Details and Participation
The consultation is available online from 4th February 2025 and will remain open until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 29th April 2025. During this period, the community is encouraged to review the strategy and provide feedback. To facilitate broader participation, the Council’s Sustainability Team will organise drop-in events at various locations. These sessions aim to provide further insights into the plan and allow residents to engage directly with the Council’s sustainability experts. More information about these events will be available soon on the Council’s website and through social media channels. Those interested in attending a drop-in session or requiring documents in an alternative format can contact the team via email at [email protected].
